On Minimalism and Passion : John Pawson

John Pawson, a British minimalist architect, explains on the Dezeen Podcast ,that architectural work is something that has continually pulled him in without annoying him. This experience is something important about pursuing any desire you may have. Motivation is a constant ebb and flow, we can’t expect it to always be prominent, however; the underlying drive you have that remains with you is absolutely something to pay attention to and act on. For John, it wasn’t until his early thirties that architecture and his dedication to a singular focus caught hold. Passion can manifest at any time in your life, you just have to be open to receiving it.

In addition, he explains that having less – white walls, mostly empty spaces, is what allows his overly active brain to pause and reflect. This can enable you to access those inner thoughts more easily, which is where your deepest desires stem.

“Minimalism is not defined by what is not there but by the rightness of what is and the richness with which it is experienced”
